Fila S.Miguel (Mixe) in Ponta Delgada suchen dringend neues Zuhause

In Ponta Delgada, die Hauptstadt der Azoren, gibt es ein Tierheim welches zahlreiche Hunde und Katzen beherbergt, die kein Zuhause haben. Trotz eines neuen Gesetzes, welches die Tötung in Tierheimen untersagt, sieht die Lage auf den Azoren leider ganz anders aus. Andre, ein  Portugiese der erst kürzlich in seine Heimat zurückgekehrt ist beschreibt es folgend: The problem of dog abandonment and abuse in São Miguel and the Azores is a cultural one. In an Island where so much of its population works in the dairy industry, animals are seen as property. Property can be disposed or misused without as much as a second thought and I feel it will take a few generations for the majority of locals to understand or care about animal welfare and catch on to the rest of the developed world on that subject.
